A whole day following the scenic road to Wharariki, where green hills meet a coastline that feels like the edge of the world.
Leave Nelson at 7am and make a day of the journey. Forest springs, hilltop lookouts and Golden Bay stops lead to beach walks, sea caves and the famous Archway Islands. There’s time to explore, take photos and simply be here.
HOW THE DAY UNFOLDS

The road is part of the adventure.
Travel through the Nelson wine region, walk to Riuwaka Resurgence and take in the views from Tākaka Hill.

A little Golden Bay time.
Stop in Tākaka to pick up lunch, continue through the valley and meet the longfin eels in Collingwood.

Wharariki, in all its wildness.
Walk the Pūponga Hilltop Track, visit Cape Farewell viewpoints and explore Wharariki’s sea caves, arches and rock pools when conditions allow. Take in the Archway Islands, with time to enjoy the coast. Wildlife sightings are a bonus, never a promise.

The long way home, well spent.
Settle into the comfortable van for the return journey and drop-off at your accommodation.

Lunch is not included; we stop in Tākaka. Bring good walking shoes, spare socks, a windproof jacket, hat, sunscreen, reusable water bottle and a small backpack. No large bags, suitcases or pets. This tour is not suitable for children under 10, people over 95, people over 130 kg, wheelchair users, people with low fitness or motion sickness. The day’s route and access to sea caves depend on conditions. We confirm the expected return time with you.

“Amazing tour, great sights and a kind and enthusiastic guide. Recommended to everyone who wants to see and experience magnificent nature. Louis took good care of us, adjusting the tour to our liking (where to stop, length of the hike, breaks etc) all while supplying us with snacks and checking in frequently. Our hike ended up being about 11 km with amazing view points from the hills, walking Wharariki beach and taking some unofficial tracks (all optional but really worth it!). We had a lot of fun and saw many lambs and even some baby seals.”

He's also prepared for the trekking, with water, nutrition bars, tissues and other items.
